Summer Thieves with special guest Sam Cullen

Jul 1, 2021 8:00 PM

Whammy

Known for their ability to start the party with their indie-pop inspired tunes, Summer Thieves have gone from playing Dunedin house parties to some of NZ’s biggest stages. The expanding catalogue has seen their following grow, with 2021 set to bring the release of their second album.

Cutting their teeth as a “Scarfie” covers band in NZ’s deep-south, Summer Thieves quickly began performing originals as their fanbase expanded.

After releasing a run of singles, 2017 saw the release of their debut album, Warped, a 12-track journey laced with catchy hooks & hypnotic rhythms.

Produced by the legendary Tiki Taane, the album features tracks honed over years on stage. The following years saw the band become a regular on the festival circuit, with multiple performances across NZ festivals.

2020 saw the band return with an extended five-piece lineup, and the release of their anticipated follow-up EP, Bandaids & Lipsticks. The EP saw them expanding their indie sound, incorporating more of a polished-pop feel, while continuing to embrace

their party-starting roots. Not wasting any time, the band immediately returned to the studio to begin work on a new full-length album. Late-2021 will see the release of this new material, with the first single ‘Potions’ beginning the journey.

This will likely be the last chance to see the boys in a venue this intimate....

0800 x NO COMPLY + Guests

May 27, 2021 8:00 PM

Whammy Bar

Two of the fastest rising NZ hip-hop groups are joining forces and hitting the road for a nationwide tour! 0800 and No Comply have been putting in the work, with both releasing a string of singles over the past 12 months, and gaining recognition for their electric live shows. The tour celebrates the release of new music from both 0800 and No Comply, so you'd be a fool to miss out on this absolute tornado of a tour.

0800

Auckland hip hop collective 0800 formed when a group of rappers, producers and visual artists came together one late night in the studio. This quickly turned into the group releasing a dynamic string of singles and eye catching videos over the next two years. The group bonded over their mutual love for the alternative hip hop scene, but also each brought in their own unique tastes from other styles, creating a sound that is genre-defying and refreshingly different.

NO COMPLY

New Zealand rapper/producer duo, NO COMPLY take their music seriously, but themselves, not so much. Their music is bold and considered, yet they infuse a playful and melodic take on the rapidly changing, forever evolving, genre we know and love as hip hop

jack berry - Live At Whammy

Jun 3, 2021 11:30 PM

Whammy Bar

jack berry is Damin McCabe’s indie-rock alias. Born and bred in Dunedin, McCabe bounces between his studio space, friend’s bedrooms, and everywhere in between; Writing songs, producing and releasing songs for others, and putting together sold out shows as a co-founder of GARBAGE Records.

2019 saw the successful releases of 'LUV', 'DUMMY EP', and 'PSYCHO', featuring on BENEE's 'Drifting', and on tour supporting BENEE around Australia and in Auckland. It also saw jack berry and his band support Lime Cordiale, LEISURE, and KLLO, as well curating and playing a night on the Garden Stage at Rhythm and Vines, and taking the stage at NESTFEST.

After taking a step back in 2020 to reassess the direction of the project, and dive into a couple of different musical avenues, jack berry released his first single of 2021 ‘the middle’ in April.

With 'the middle', jack berry has really stripped back to basics, whilst still keeping that structure and tone that people have come to know and love from him. The incorporation of more 90's esque crunchy guitar tones, combined with punchy drums, 'the middle' sounds like a fresh start.

The rest of 2021 will see jack berry back on the road touring a new live show in New Zealand and Australia, and an EP due for release mid year.

Paddy Echo & Mackenzy Mackay

Whammy Bar

Endeavour Live and Profanity are proud to present two future stars in our favourite haunt; Whammy Bar!

PADDY ECHO

Alt-pop solo artist, Paddy Echo, returns to release his brand new single, ‘The View, a swirling, indie-synth pop take on heartbreak and loss. After a two year hiatus, Paddy Echo’s, ‘The View,’ is the first step of his forthcoming EP due to be released later this year. It marks the beginning of a new era in his music.

Having spent the start of 2020 in LA writing and recording with the likes of Matias Mora (CYN, Broods), Barkley (ASHE) and Phil Scully (Diplo, Major Lazer, ZAYN), Paddy returned to New Zealand with an emphatic new sound and energy that will get anyone singing along.

‘The View’ features co-writes from New Zealand pop music front-runners Will Thomas (Sachi), Harper Finn and PJ Shepherd, and tackles the anguish and suffering of a friendship that was cut short. Opening with delicate chords and a nostalgic, flowing melody, ‘The View’ gradually builds to a chorus that will shatter any dance floor.

The accompanying music video captures the hazy aesthetic of his time in California and dives into the journey of friendship, happiness and ultimately, heartbreak.

MACKENZY MACKAY

With a box of Yorkshire tea and his notepad, singer and songwriter Mackenzy Mackay takes a step back from the fast lane of London.  He moves to New Zealand to finally finish and release his own original music...

Following on from a massive summer tour which saw him headlining festivals all across Aotearoa; New Zealand’s homegrown hero QUIX is back for his biggest New Zealand tour yet. Bringing his iconic live show to cities all across the country, some for the first time in his career, these shows are not to be missed!

And for his hometown of Auckland, QUIX will be inviting some of his friends from across the ditch to raise the noise in the form of Australian leading producers HEIMANU and EMWA and Eary.

HEIMANU

Heimanu first came to prominence as a Sydney based producer with his official remix for RL Grime’s “UCLA”. Keeping up the momentum, Heimanu has since released on labels such as Sable Valley, DIM MAK, Lowly, NIGHT MODE and Circus Records totalling 5M+ streams across all streaming platforms. He now has over 120k+ monthly Spotify listeners.

He is now known for his unique sound which he encapsulates under the genre ‘NuRave’, which displays euphorically energetic builds, powerfully melodic drops, and lulling atmospheric breakdowns. He couples rave sounds with crunchy basses designed to give his emotional writing a darker edge. Matching these sounds with a futuristic and dystopian aesthetic, Heimanu wants to be your guide into the future unknown.

EMWA

With her relentless determination, Auckland based Emma “EMWA” Davies has dominated headline shows and festivals around the country. EMWA has supported some of the most influential artists in her respective genre such as QUIX, Ray Volpe, Dodge & Fuski & Barely Alive. She has made a name for herself amongst promoters, international artists and partygoers around the country. Consequently, EMWA has played at the world-renowned Spark Arena as well as every major music festival New Zealand has to offer.

The 'dubstep princess' brings her own exclusive sound that crowds love and her fans can't find anywhere else. With her own radio show on George FM & multiple anticipated releases scheduled for 2021, EMWA is making herself a cornerstone in the New Zealand music community.

EARY

EARY, born and raised in New Zealand, while new to the DJ scene has been producing and mixing for years. His signature Eastern European sound is what makes his sets so dark and experimental, you’ll leave his show trying to explain what you just witnessed.  Flutes and 808s, EARY is a ‘one of a kind’ DJ to see.

SOL3 MIO announce nationwide tour to round out the Kiwi summer!

SOL3 MIO, will perform in some of the country's most loved regional venues with a repertoire of classics as well as debut some of their own new material.

Sol3 Mio are an operatic pop vocal trio from Auckland, New Zealand. Comprised of Samoan-descended brother's Pene and Amitai Pati - both tenors - and their baritone cousin Moses Mackay, the group fuses classical, opera, and pop music with a playful wit and frequent nods to their Samoan heritage. All three are classically trained and had been pursuing their own careers when, in 2008, Pene and Moses found themselves in the backing choir for famed Italian star Andrea Bocelli.

The inspiration they felt from that concert stayed with them, and in 2011 they united with Amitai for a series of fundraising concerts that would launch their career as Sol3 Mio. By 2013 they had signed with and recorded their self-titled debut, a collection of traditional and popular songs that immediately topped the New Zealand Albums Chart and became the biggest-selling album in the country that year. Sol3 Mio's success continued in 2014 with the release of a four-song EP, a holiday single, and appearances around the world. Their 2015 follow-up album, On Another Note, also reached number one in New Zealand led by the single "I See Fire," a cover of Ed Sheeran's song from The Hobbit soundtrack.

Having rescheduled their Spark Sessions Auckland show to March 11, the trio are excited about adding new tour dates and hitting the road!

"Its been a tough year for everyone and it's time to get together and sing!"

"We love touring here in Aotearoa, especially to perform in some of these stunning venues, we can't wait to share these new songs with you,” Moses Mackay said.

NEW DATES ANNOUNCED

With the recent change in COVID-19 Alert Levels in New Zealand, the upcoming SOL3 MIO shows in New Plymouth, Wanganui, Wellington, Palmerston North and Hamilton had to be rescheduled, joining the already rescheduled Napier performance. However, Endeavour Live and the SOL3 MIO team are now pleased to announce the below rescheduled dates for the remainder of the SOL3 MIO NEW ZEALAND TOUR.

Following on from a huge run opening for Benee’s stadium tour, Muroki has announced three headline shows in Wellington, Auckland and Raglan before heading to Gisborne to perform at Rhythm and Vines. One to watch would be putting it lightly…

Coromandel born but residing in Raglan since he was a kid, Muroki has always lived near the waves —a defining backdrop to this 19 year-old's sound.

It’s a sound that caught the ear of Benee. She played the mesmeric ‘For Better Or Worse’ on Elton John’s radio show and he is the first signing to her new Olive Music label with single ‘Light Me Up’ due out imminently.

"I first heard Muroki’s music when I was on tour in Australia last year and I was listening to him every day at one point, ha!” she says. "I love his voice so muchhhh — it’s so smooth and soulful. Then I met him at 121 Festival in March. Muroki’s such a sweet and genuine guy, just the sort of artist I’d  like to work with."

Muroki plays music, surfs, skates and brews a good coffee for Raglan locals. Between lockdowns, he had a brutal stint planting trees through the Whāingaroa winter, making enough cash to allow him space and time to write music. And write music he did.

Even at his young age, Muroki is already a musician's musician — brimming with talent and soul far beyond his years. He started learning guitar as an 8 year old, and with the guidance of his blind guitar teacher, he's been on a unique journey with his craft ever since. His multifaceted silky and rhythmic grooves have strong ties to his surfing background, blending sounds from South America to Africa (Muroki’s of Kenyan descent himself) and back to the West.

But it's really Muroki's vocal ability that will have your undivided attention — his voice is a smooth and hypnotic instrument effortlessly caressing melodies to melt even the toughest of us. This is someone you don't want to be late on. Muroki is set to take your heart.

Park RD with Little Sunday at Whammy

West Auckland’s fast up and coming indie-surf band Park Rd have dropped their latest single today, and it’s … well… Golden!

The five-piece have proven that even a pandemic won’t hold them back; reaching three-quarters of a million streams on spotify, featuring at Live Nation and Vodafone’s Ones to Watch showcase, playing to a sold out crowd of fans at Auckland's Tuning Fork, and releasing their first body of work in May (an EP called Sandcastles) - amongst other stepping stones.

Lead guitar Angus Hampton-Carr says that Park Rd is about being together, as a band and with the community around them. “We put a lot of love into our songs and we have a lot of fun writing them as a band, but the highlight for me is the being able to play shows and feel everyone there coming together and having a blast with something we created.”Golden is a reflection of just that - appreciating the power of the journey the group is on, together connected by music.

Breakout Presents: Willy Mav & THOMO

Dec 18, 2020 10:00 PM

Pointers Bar

Breakout Presents first Installment brings you the Lower North Island's finest selectors in Willy Mav & THOMO, assisted in no small part by CHEFF, Poris, Hussy and Julian VDP B2B Xpillane.

After a year of uncertainty and setbacks, Aotearoa's drum and bass scene soared to unthinkable heights, with homegrown talent such as Lee Mvtthews, Montell2099, Witters and more jetting to headline events all over the country and a plethora of new tunes dropping almost every week. In the wake of all the turmoil, it's only right we bring you the next big thing, so Endeavour Live Presents are proud to bring you BreakOut Presents, a brand new monthly drum and bass installment showcasing some of Aotearoas biggest rising stars.

Installment one brings you the Lower North Island's finest selectors in Willy Mav & THOMO, assisted in no small part by CHEFF, Poris, Hussy and Julian VDP B2B Xpillane.

Willy Mav (WLG) is no stranger to success this year, as the Wellington based producer/DJ sent shockwaves around the globe following his latest single “Falling ft Elipsa”, which was released on DnB Allstars Records, one of the biggest drum and bass presences in the world. Backing that up with "Without You ft Elipsa", released on Lunchbox Records, this lad has a serious catalogue behind him and it's only getting better. Catch him for his debut headline set in Auckland, front left, you know the drill.

THOMO (PMN) has been throwing down hefty selections all year and after gaining ticks of approval from Lee Mvtthews (NZ), Bou (UK) and Murdock (BEL) as one of New Zealand’s most technically gifted DJ’s, you can see why. Gaining traction from an hour long live stream that will go down in lockdown folklore, THOMO has established himself as one of the baddest men in the drum and bass community. After supporting the likes of Bou (UK), The Upbeats (NZ), Lee Mvtthews (NZ) and Murdock (UK) in his home town of Palmerston North, we are gassed to have THOMO up ripping the ones, twos, threes and fours for us. And yes, he'll play THAT Bassline Secret triple.

CHEFF is an Auckland based producer/DJ who has cemented himself as one of Auckland's biggest talents. His remix of SHARD'S "Wolves" went viral around the country, racking up over 50,000 plays in less than three months, and after following that up with a number of heaters such as; Monarch, Enclosure and Wallace & Gromit, the lad shows no signs of stopping. The young gun has supported some of the biggest names in drum and bass such as; K Motionz (UK), Brookes Brothers (UK), DJ Phantasy (UK) and more, so don't be surprised if you see him headlining bills all over the country very soon.

Poris has been one of New Zealand's biggest prospects over the last year, earning herself a slot on almost every festival lineup in the country, with a whopping 21 dates across 9 cities locked in her for her over the next 3 months. After just ticking off her first national tour, Poris has made a notorious name for herself with one of the most successful come ups in New Zealand DJ history and we cannot wait to have her curating the vibes for us come December.

Akin to Poris, Hussy has been smashing the scene over the past year. The crowned winner of the coveted Bedroom Bangers Mix Comp and serious wavemaker in the drum and bass community, Hussy has been giving the scene a right fright with his fast paced mixing and heavy tune selection.

Julian VDP B2B Xpillane are a new duo consisting of Julian VDP and Xpillane. Both Auckland based, Julian VDP was the runner up in the Bedroom Bangers Mix Comp and has established himself as one of New Zealand's most talented selectors and has been supporting headliners almost every week. Still at the ripe age of 18, Julian has a massive few years ahead of him and we hope you are as stoked to see him as we are. Xpillane is the moniker of Joshua Spillane, a household name on the North Shore of Auckland, and gained exponential success this year when his "Quarantine & Bass" mix went viral across the first lockdown. Back that up with frequent George FM plays, and these two have a bright future and they promise their debut B2B is not something to be missed.

Home Bay, Motutapu Island

More Info

As part of the Summernova series of events and held at the historic Te Pēhi o Manawatere, Home Bay, on Te Motutapu a Taikehu, this new and exciting event presents the opportunity for locals and visitors of Tāmaki to eat, drink and dance on a unique island setting this summer.

Held over 2 days, Island Time ticket holders gain access to one of four Island Time sessions taking place on either SATURDAY, 27 MARCH 2021 or SUNDAY, 28 MARCH 2021.

As part of the partnership between Endeavour Live and Ngāi Tai Te Haerenga, portion of ticket sales will go towards the preservation of the island and it’s unique inhabitants (such as Takahē, Brown Kiwi, Tuturuatu, Tuturuwhatu, Kākāriki, Tīeke, Kawekaweau and many others). The official charity of Island Time on Motutapu is PROJECT KIWI.

The event also presents the opportunity for Aucklanders and visitors to gain a greater understanding of the island and its cultural significance for the region. Through the Ngāi Tai Tāmaki partnership, there will be the opportunity for event attendees to learn about the history of the island in a fun and engaging way.

ISLAND TIME ON MOTUTAPU RESCHEDULED FOR MARCH

With the recent change in COVID-19 Alert Levels in Auckland and the complex nature of this event, organisers have in consultation with Ngai Tai Ki Tamaki and DOC made the decision to reschedule Island Time on Motutapu from 27 & 28 February to Saturday, March 27 & Sunday, March 28 2021.

Hosting an event on Motutapu, one of the Hauraki Gulf’s oldest islands, requires an extra layer of biosecurity to protect one of our most precious toangas and its species, as well as infrastructure to get guests, vendors and suppliers safely to and from the site. As such, we’re making the cautious decision to postpone the event now and give our customers as much notice as possible.

All existing tickets are valid for the new dates, with ticketholders simply required to login to their Eventbrite account to obtain their updated tickets. For those who can not make the new dates, can apply for a refund via www.endeavour.live/refunds. You will have until 5 March to apply for the refund, after which refund requests will no longer be accepted.

GINO OCTOBER

At 16, Gino October began producing and recording his own music, thanks to his brother’s early belief and investment in his talent. It was his brother who recognised Gino’s keen interest in rapping, buying his little brother a mic, computer and interface so he could begin making his own beats.

In 2016 Gino released his first EP, ‘Conflicted Conscience’, allowing him to begin honing his live performance craft at small venues throughout Auckland.

His 2018 EP ‘Expansion’ helped further cement Gino’s presence in the local scene, with a performance at Northern Bass the following year, and a feature on JessB’s ‘Work With’ track alongside Big Zeeks.

‘Look How Far We’ve Come’ is Gino’s retrospective offering, a journey that pays homage to where he comes from, exploring isolation and vulnerability, but is also a declaration that he’s sticking around to enjoy the ride. “I hope people enjoy listening to this project as much as I enjoyed making it.”

PARK RD

Park Rd are a surf-rock band from West Auckland, made up of 5 high-school pals. Their music is inspired by the world around them - surfing at west coast beaches, skating and spending time with friends and whanau. They're all about appreciating what's around them.

Off the back of releasing their debut EP (Sandcastles), Park Rd are heading into an exciting summer that will see them play throughout Aotearoa. Come sing and dance along with this must see band.

LAIIKA

Consisting of best friends Grace Moller and Heidi Simpson, LAIIKA are a female pop-duo from Auckland with an exciting modern take on pop music that recounts the whimsical feelings of youth with cutting truth. Since writing and performing their first song together at a dinner party as thirteen year olds, the now nineteen year old friends have been busy developing their unique sound and style, combining one another’s song writing and production skills over the past five years.

Sonically cohesive, yet eclectic, LAIIKA continue to write and co-produce all of their own songs, ranging from upbeat funkalicious dance tracks to stripped back intimate power ballads. Drawing inspiration from 70’s disco, dreamy 80’s synth pop and punchy 2000’s classics, think Avril Lavigne’s teenage angst meets the electro-pop power of The Veronicas with a touch of Taylor Swift’s folklore delicacy and you’ve got LAIIKA pinned. A duo who are more ready than ever to take on the world of pop, in their very own unique and significant way.

LEAPING TIGER

From Auckland, Leaping Tiger is the project of 21-year-old music producer and bass player, Jacob Park. Taking inspiration from a wide range of genres to create a unique hybrid of Electronic, Alternative, Hip-hop and R&B. Growing up in Tamaki Makaurau’s Eastern Bays in a half Zambian half European household lent to an early appreciation for world music. This later paired with a fascination of electronic music taking inspiration from producers such as James Blake, Flying Lotus, Arca and coming of age with internet culture to create the Leaping Tiger sound.

This is an all ages show! Come find your new favourite band at the legendary Tuning Fork.

"We have been playing around with the live setup a lot and the full band brings new life to the songs that people can’t get from just listening to the recordings. The main goal for us is to bring something new and effervescent to the songs that show them in a brighter more unique light. Lets have a boogie woo woo”

Endeavour Live is proud to present a special performance from singer songwriter Harper Finn, performing alongside rapper duo No Comply at Auckland's Tuning Fork.

Harper Finn:
Art pop singer-songwriter Harper Finn shuffles in mysterious ways. Growing up under an eclectic umbrella of influences, Harper bends the style boundaries of pop, centering his handwritten gems around an infectious kinetic energy and the twists and turns of youth and young adulthood.

NO COMPLY:
New Zealand rapper/producer duo, NO COMPLY take their music seriously, but themselves, not so much. Their music is bold and considered, yet they infuse a playful and melodic take on the rapidly changing, forever evolving, genre we know and love as hip hop.

Being brothers, the pair both have their own musical tastes and preferences that run deep into the veins of many genres. Whether it's a message or a feeling, music has been, and will always be, an outlet and a way to express their inner thoughts.

Support appearances from The Basement Collective and Teto.
